So, whether you want help recognizing the toxic employees around you — or you'd like to avoid becoming one yourself — watch out for these three red flags, CEOs say. The entitled employeeDon't ever act like you're owed a promotion or raise, says Tom Gimbel, CEO of staffing and recruiting firm LaSalle Network. "[People who say] 'I'm only going to do what's in my job description, I'm not going the extra mile, I'm not going to commit time to this' and expect to be rewarded" aren't desirable employees, Gimbel tells CNBC Make It. Sometimes, employees are caught off-guard when colleagues with less tenure get promoted first, but time alone doesn't entitle anyone to a promotion. When the employee turned in the work, it contained a noticeable error — and they blamed Fox, saying her instructions were unclear.

The effort came at a nervous time for the Journal newsroom. It's still reeling from February, when the paper sharply cut its DC newsroom, its second-biggest bureau after New York. Tucker wrote at the time that the DC bureau changes were enacted to put the company in the position to serve readers better and stand out from the competition. The union has filed grievances over the DC bureau layoffs and is considering filing grievances over the meetings, Martell said. Creative Artists Agency, the talent agency that brokered McDaniel’s deal with NBC, also parted ways with her, the person said. McDaniel, who recently stepped down from the RNC under pressure from former President Donald Trump, was involved in attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. NBC’s announcement Friday that it had hired McDaniel was quickly met with alarm by the network’s journalists. Welker disclosed that the interview had been scheduled to take place prior to NBC announcing McDaniel would become a paid contributor for the network, stating that she had no involvement in her hiring. MSNBC president Rashida Jones also did not object to the decision, people familiar with the matter said.

Some of the highest-profile journalists at NBC are pushing back against the network's hiring of Ronna McDaniel. Chief political analyst Chuck Todd on Sunday said many at NBC are "uncomfortable" with the McDaniel hire. On Monday, "Meet the Press" hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski said McDaniel wouldn't appear on their program. AdvertisementAfter NBC News announced that it had hired former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel as a paid contributor late last week, the pushback from media critics was immediate. In a highly-unusual move, NBC News journalists including former "Meet the Press" moderator Chuck Todd and "Morning Joe" hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski openly criticized the hiring of McDaniel.

CNN —Former “Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd delivered a stunning rebuke of NBC News on Sunday, blasting the network for hiring former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel as a paid political analyst. As RNC chair, McDaniel was a prominent election denier, working to help disgraced former President Donald Trump subvert the 2020 vote. Asked why she didn’t offer such condemnation as RNC chairwoman, McDaniel responded, “When you’re the RNC chair, you kind of take one for the whole team. But Todd noted that because McDaniel was a paid network contributor, it was not clear whether she was being genuine. But Todd disagreed with NBC News’ decision, adding that McDaniel has “credibility issues.”Others on the Sunday broadcast panel agreed with Todd’s assessment.

But instead of applying for jobs or pitching editors, I spent hours cycling through social media apps each day. My relationship with my smartphone has changed significantly since I removed the food and shopping apps.

However, two active Covid infections within three months — in June and August of 2022 — left me virtually bedridden with long Covid for 18 months. To add insult to injury, there are too many dismissive doctors who treat long Covid in an ineffective manner and believe that long Covid is largely a psychological issue. We need strong, consistent funding and relentless, targeted research to identify effective diagnostic testing and successful therapies. We need to require insurance companies to fund experimental or off-label usage of pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals (food products with health benefits).

According to Merriam-Webster, the word of 2023 is “authentic.” And unlike the dictionary’s last few choices, it’s plagued by contradictions. As Buzzfeed and other outlets made very clear, she was the down-to-earth embodiment of the “cool girl” persona first popularized by Gillian Flynn’s 2012 novel, “Gone Girl,” a riotous, happy-go-lucky sex symbol. Almost overnight, the “cool girl” aura she epitomized was recast. Online, our miniature social media platforms take cues from celebrities’ mega ones. Should we even post about our mental health on social media, if we wouldn’t be comfortable telling our boss about it in person?

However, that became more of an issue earlier this year when Musk, as the new boss of Twitter, now X, got rid of the trademark blue check sign of authenticity - now only available at a price. The rise of artificial intelligence has blurred the lines between what is real and what is not, leaving celebrities, brands and social media influencers - among others - keen to prove their authenticity. One of the most notable news stories of the year about deepfake images was of those appearing to show former President Donald Trump being detained by police in a dramatic fashion back in March. In 2022, Merriam-Webster chose “gaslighting” as its word of the year, saying it had become a ubiquitous term in the “age of misinformation.”Other words that led much traffic to the online dictionary in 2023 included coronation, dystopian, indict and doppelgänger. Meanwhile “rizz” went straight to the “top of lookups” in September, when the example of internet-driven slang was added to the dictionary.
